Another winter and same old stories. Some love it, some don’t.

Usually cold winter days bring in snowstorms that put smiles on kids faces, big and small, who enjoy winter activities on local slopes, on ice and wherever opportunity presents itself. In the same time this large amounts of snow can cause a havoc in the cities, especially those that are not very often hit hard and for that reason don’t have ready clean up crews.

Snow removal in Montreal. From one side of the street snow is removed first.

In extreme cases no amount of preparation and heavy equipment can keep up with the snowfall. Under those circumstances traffic can be brought to the standstill, driving becomes impossible and in some cases motorists do get stranded buried in the snow.

If you live in a warm climate and wonder how all that looks like then our video may help. Montreal snow storm video is featuring moderate snow storm that had left behind 15cm of snow on the city streets. Second part of video is showing few scenes of typical snow removal operation that follows during the first 7 days.

How bad it gets in you city during and after the snowstorm and are you happy with snow cleaning or removal response? What excuses your city cancelers have when things go wrong?

Spring may have arrived more than a month ago but as they say it’s not over until it’s over, and that applies to the winter weather throughout Canada. This year winter was not as usual, at least for some of us, but the last snow in April did not disappoint many parts of Canada (discover).

After the April snow in Montreal we can usually say that another winter is behind us

In Montreal, last serious snowfall (that would be 15cm + (6 inches +)) was around New Years day, but weather stayed cold enough until early March so there was plenty of ice skating, skiing and sledding.

In this part of Canada spring this year came early and in March and April we had many exceptionally warm and sunny days. Nature woke up 3-4 weeks earlier than usually does, so snow is surprise only for already green trees and blossoming tulips who got covered with a white blanket of wet snow. What consequences will it have early spring and late snow on fruit orchards, vineyards etc. we’ll find out soon enough since this hopefully last snow of the season will be replaced with warm 20° C (68° F) in the next few days.

Are yours bigger, potholes of course?

How is your car surviving winters hidden treasure named pothole covered with snow and slash? Do you live in the city where braking every bit of your car is also doing it’s part in economy by creating jobs?

Photo archive; Potholes in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Where are worst roads you have encountered? Are they in your town, city or other country, continent?

By reading articles about potholes among numerous search results I realized that this is simply an issue that we have to learn to live with, or maybe not? There is, for an example, in North America almost every city full of “proud” citizens who can’t say enough about size and number of their potholes, the way city is cooping with the problem, cost of repairing roads, damage to the vehicles, etc.

Can we accept this as being “product” of mother nature, blamed on whether, winter and ice?

Sometimes is hard to believe that in 21st century there is no material that could improve and strengthen the road surface?

Are you refusing to accept that nothing can be done? Some say that by doing the road work in a way it has been done for so many decades, there is nothing else behind potholes then preservation of road construction jobs, creation of car repair workshop jobs and production of car replacement parts.

Also, is that another “business” of ours that is doing it’s part in further and further depleting Earth’s resources and unnecessarily destroying ecosystem? Is there anything we do good for future generations or we are selfishly trying to take with us to the other World as much cash as we can, even though we are already decade in to 21st century and by some scientists completely evolved grown-ups?
