Ottawa is the capital of Canada. In 1857, Queen Victoria choose Ottawa as a capital for the then province of Canada (discover).

- Canada day or FĂȘte du Canada (formerly Dominion Day) celebration is held every year on the Parliament Hill on July 1st.
- Rideau Canal and locks are open to and in use by the pleasure crafts during the summer months. In winter months part of the Rideau Canal in Ottawa becomes one of the world’s largest skating rinks.
- Terrance Stanley “Terry” Fox, was a Canadian who started a cross-Canada run, “the Marathon of Hope”, to raise money for cancer research. Now, the Marathon of Hope is held every September in many countries around the World for the same reasons. Terry Fox had not succeed to run to the west coast of Canada due to the illness but greatness of his idea and memory on Terry Fox lives with us.
