Montreal is the largest French-speaking city in North America (discover). Montréal (French) today represents a mosaic of cultures from all continents, blended into one accepting and open-minded society. Explorer Jacques Cartier “discovered” Montreal in 1535 and at the time on the island lived native Americans in the village of Hochelaga. Throughout the centuries Montreal (photos) grew in to a great cosmopolitan city famous for its museums, cafés, gourmet restaurants and numerous festivals.
Montreal is located at the confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers, in the southwest of the province of Quebec, in Canada (map).
